The Opti7040 thread was very helpful to me in my progress through this problem, but not sufficient for me to get through. Solved Problems:. USB 3 only: injected an even newer version of Intel USB 3 Drivers.
UEFI Secure Boot: In Bios, disabled secure boot & enabled Legacy ROMs. Remaining Problem?. 256GB NVMe Toshiba SSD (M2 PCIe, THNSN5256GPUK) MS KB 2990941 - the windows NVMe driver did improve the situation, as did the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. But now, I get a required DVD/CD driver missing error. Not that this computer has a DVD/CD drive.
I can actually browse the contents of the SSD, but it still will not let me continue. Edited Apr 5, 2017 at 15:41 UTC. MI32 wrote: This is a fairly new dell pc I am sure you have support what does dell say?Support is HW only.

I rebuilt the USB I was installing from and included this package in the drivers - special thanks to DISM. Got past the DVD/CD error, but not seeing the PCIe SSD. This driver should be in the full 7050 package that BGM so kindly linked me. Make sure you have it plugged into HD0. I've seen this error when the SSD is plugged into a different port. Andrew Wiggin wrote: Confirmed.
All I needed was the full 7050 driver pack, legacy roms + SATA 'RAID on' mode. At this point, I believe that my DVD/CD error was caused by the MS NVMe KB & my inability to see the disk was caused by AHCI mode. What the heck did you do with that.CAB file you downloaded? I tried to use it but apparently I have to use the COnfiguration Manager thing, which I have no idea how to use or where to find.
Last thing I was reading about it talked about it using an agent and sounded like getting it set up would be a major pain in the butt, so I gave up. Anyway, I have an OptiPlex 5030 that I'm trying to put Windows 7 on (a ssd) and it's not working no matter what I try. And I have been through this same thing numerous times on other systems (Dell and non-Dell) and I've always got it working after a while of BIOS changes and stuff. This time, it's not working at all. This time, it's not working at all.Extract it using 7-Zip. Then just add the drivers to whatever deployment software you use and go from there. Davidgreen4 wrote: This is so frustrating. Dell used to be a great manufacturer to work with. They have made it harder and harder to install the OS. I just now got my first 7050 and tried the install yesterday. Seeing this thread and all of the work you have to do to install Windows 7 is disheartening.
This has nothing to do with Dell. It's an Intel and AMD issue. It would be the same if you tried to install Windows 7 on a Skylake/Kaby Lake machine from Lenovo, HP, Acer, Asus, $OtherOEM, or even built it yourself.

How is driver support for modern hardware in an archaic software the fault of the HW manufacturers, except that they elect to innovate and change things? There is no fault here whatsoever. The closest is that Microsoft makes integrating external drivers quite difficult during an installation.
However, even that can be explained away because MS doesn't really WANT third-party drivers in OS install as they are perpetually afraid of third-party drivers causing blue screens. The reality is that Win7 is a gorgeous OS, but it's ancient now. It's well-deployed and loved, just like XP was prior, but that still doesn't mean it's not ancient. Good god, I was forklifting an entire business to Win7 (yes, we replaced over 60% of systems so we could.we really did forklift it) in 2007/8. It's a DECADE later. I'm not saying they should provide drivers for old OSes (even though Windows 8 is lacking driver support, and I would necessarily call that archaic yet). I'm saying don't blame Dell when it's not up to them.
On the other hand, you could also argue that while an OS is still in support, manufacturers should be providing drivers for it. Personally, I think W7 needs to go because it lacks security, but I digress.
Windows 7 is missing the USB3 driver which is what most computers come with. The next problem is that Windows 7 is missing the Microsoft Storage Controller driver stornmve. There is no way to download Microsoft Storage Controller driver and provide durin the installations screens. However the Windows 10 ISO in the Sources folder it's boot.wim & setup.exe has the Microsoft Storage Controller driver.
I had to combined both methods from this Intel doc on how to install guide Windows 7 Enterprise on Dell OptiPlex 7050 with SSD NVME (not normal SSD SATA): 1) Use Microsoft Win 7 Enterprise SP1 ISO. I didn't one have so I slipstreamed SP1 into Win 7 Enterprise ISO. RT Seven Lite and NT Lite are a great app for doing this. 2) Go to the Dell and go to Support for the OptiPlex 7050 and then go to download drivers section and download the USB3 driver. Extra the files by running the driver.exe or using 7Zip. 3) Download Microsoft KB's from Microsoft website (I just searched for them to get links): Windows6.1-KB2990941-v3-x64.msu Windows6.1-KB3087873-v2-x64.msu 3) Extra your Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 ISO using 7zip.
4) Use NT Lite or RT Seven Lite to Inject the two KB's and USB driver into the install.wim file from your extracted Windows 7 enterprise ISO. 5) Make a bootable USB (needs to be 8GB) using NTLite or RT Seven Lite from your update extracted Windows 7 enterprise ISO 6) Go to your USB and navigate to the Sources folder on the USB and rename boot.wim and setup.wim to original.boot.wim and original.setup.exe 7) Extra Window Enterprise 10 ISO using 7Zip. In the Windows 10 folder navigate to the Sources folder and copy the boot.win and setup.exe 8) Go back to your Windows 7 Enterprise USB and nagivate to the Sources folder and paste boot.wm (which is Windows 10) and setup.exe (which is Windows 10) That's it all your need are those two files from the sources folder on the Windows 10 Enterprise ISO. Now go to your Optiplex 7050 and plug in your USB stick and hit F12 and boot from USB.
You'll notice that the setup screen is blue like Windows 10. I deleted the exiting WIndows 7 Pro partitions and then started the installation. Edited Jan 18, 2018 at 01:07 UTC.
To supplement Marc6935's response, this is the step-by-step video tutorial of how to create the USB BUT my problem is after Windows 7's desktop shows up, 'plug and play' doesn't work.it doesn't show the USB drive that's connected and NIC is not working, so I can't install drivers. I ended up by booting to Ubuntu with another USB and copied necessary drivers that way. Be forewarned, as you might not want to go down this path.
